Updates from the second day of the General Strike in Athens

1714 GMT New police operation to clear Syntagma. Thousands stay at the square. Police throw tear gas and stun grenades straight into the crowd. Many more injured.

1655 GMT 2. 200 delta cops have closed panepistimiou ave. New operation at syntagma starts now.

1606 GMT 2. The new bailout was voted in parliament by 155 MPs. This means war.

1547 GMT 2 Corporate media lie that the police have evacuated syntagma. The atmosphere is suffocating, we have at least five injured from tear gas, but there is no chance we leave. We are staying!

15.17 GMT+2 The vote in parliament will start in a few minutes. We are waiting for them in Syntagma and we hold the square.

14:43 GMT +2 Slightly quieter now, but police keep charging the square and then being pushed back. People are refusing to leave. All marble by the Great Britain hotel has been broken up for use.

14:16 GMT +2 Police attacking the square with unprecedented amount of teargas. Everyone is refusing to leave the square. Main slogan is “Bread, Education, and Freedom, the junta did not end in 1973″

12.33 GMT+2 At least eight demonstrators injured so far.

12.15 GMT+2 Approximately 15,000 people at Syntagma and the crowd size is increasing by the minute. Chants in the air: “Lae Polema, Sou Pinoune to Aima”  – “People Rise Up, They’re Sucking Your Blood”

11.40 GMT+2 The blockade at Kalimarmaro (the Panathenaic stadium) is also under attack. At least one person detained.

11.35 GMT+2 The police attack the people’s blockade outside Hilton hotel. There is a huge need for people to join the blockade. Those who want to get there should go from Mihalakopoulou or Megaro Mousikis. The aim is to close off the intersection. At least two people injured.

11.30 GMT+2 The new agreement is expected to be voted in parliament at approximately 1400 hours local time

What’s happening in the rest of Greece? Occupations, strikes, street trouble, demos? Everything seems focused on Athens in the mainstream news? Also, what is the reaction in the main square of the crowds in the Assembly to the fighting that rages around it? Are more people taking part in resisting the cops?

How can the struggle generalise beyond back and forths on the streets with the cops outside Parliament into something that blocks, occupies and expropriates?

Amazing stuff though everyone out there the streets. Solidarity to all
