On 26th of August, about 50000 minks were liberated from a fur farm in a village near Kastoria (north greece), and a few days later another similar action took place in a village near Siatista (near Kastoria). That area of greece is well known for it’s fur companies. A communique in english by A.L.F. (Animal Liberation Front) was published on http://www.directaction.info/news_aug29_10.htm and claims the responsibility for the actions.
A few days later the commnique was translated and published on the site of “Antispecistic Action” (http://www.antispe.gr/), a group that is open and known. The media tried to connect this group with the action that took place in the end of August and to criminalise the actions of it’s members. They have published an announcement, condemning the media and the police that without clues and with lies try to target their group.

I am all in favor of targeting the criminal torture establishments of the fur industry but I wonder how the releasing of 50.000 thousand blood thirsty indiscriminate killing machines into the natural wildlife of the area is going to affect the lives of other animals.
Have these people never heard of the effect that unnatural numbers of minks have on other wildlife?
This is the stupidest ALF action I have heard of for a looong time. In fact it is a repetition of an action done by ALF in the UK many years ago. An action that in its gargantuan mindlessness did much to damage the cause of animal liberation.
Sectarian morons!
Actually it’s not the first time that thousands of minks are liberated in the area of north greece. similar action had happened a few months ago near Kozani.

Yup, insane. Mink are still a problem in the S.Wales valleys snacking on water voles and fucking off the hard pressed otters who’ve been trying to get their footing back after hunting them to near extinction was 1. banned & 2. became socially repugnant. Don’t mean that fur farming is right however but 50,000 newcomers trying to eek out an existence in a stable? eco-system. well look what the introduction of 1000′s of persecuted religious nutters did to native population of N.America
Actually, i don’t think that minks are going to survive to the environment of north-west greece and the vast majority will probably die. The damage is mostly done to the company, and less to the ecosystem.
This is my opinion of course, and maybe i am wrong.
the company has insurance, maybe their premium goes up, maybe they struggle whilst reaching a settlement. Fuckwits however keep promoting and desiring Fur, its a viable market. Even post the anti fur supermodel catwalk success which is now oh so unfashionable (in times of austerirty we must flaunt excess dahlings etc).
i think the targets were wrong
