#285 | The Anti-authoritarian Movement of Athens (AK) on Wednesday’s events

[Greek original]

Communication/ Announcement

(May 6)

In yesterday’s big strike society experienced a huge victory which was undermined by an attempt to charge it with a tragic event, a defeat that does not belong to it.

The fire in “Marfin” bank offered “warmth” to a political and social system that has already started “cooling” from the frosty touch of gold.

The tragic incident, lying outside of the atmosphere of popular rage and how this was expressed from Alexandras Avenue up to Syntagma Square, was to derive from the intolerance of the “specialists of violence”. The mantle of the aggressive avant-guard has fallen and denuded the role of the “fighting-pest”, as a role that lies outside and against society. Roles, commandment and an obsession of a perception of being against society, rather than on its side, led to the death of three employees.

It was revealed that such practices and rationales lie side-by-side and serve the interests of the bosses and the state. Such an ingenuous offer to the forces of domination is even more effective than a formal collaboration with the bosses and the state would have been.  The massive march of 200,000 people in downtown Athens is the answer to haberdashers of violence. Social anger and the way this will be expressed each time (squats, clashes and demonstrations) is a choice of society itself, rather than of self-appointed rescuers.

The Anti-authoritarian Movement, consistent with its conceptualisation of society and the slogan “direct social action – direct democracy”, crouched together thousands of people in a massive, self guarded and solid block just like the other structured blocks of anarchists. As an organic part it participated in the expression of an enormous radical social portion which showcased that the state has no social legitimacy.

Despite the regime’s grave robbery, which tried to build consensus on the deaths of the three workers, the employees of “Marfin” themselves pinpointed the instigators: “my colleagues got killed today by malice. The malice of the bank and of Mr. Vgenopoulos personally, who instructed that anyone who does not work should not bother come to the office the day after.” Perpetrators who turn working conditions into crematoria of waged slavery. The people who got killed from the fire cannot be mourned by the tears of the political leaders, only by the popular movement.

    As we have already said (http://www.occupiedlondon.org/blog/2010/05/04/a-note-on-comments/) we want to keep admin to a minimum, and have little time to do otherwise. However, no comments that show disrespect to the dead will be tolerated.

    This text is political propaganda, it’s only meant to strengthen a movement and doesn’t make any reflexion… It seem like the AK movement and other political anarchism are trying to make political gain over the insurrectionist/hooligan…

    Also by separating the violent protester from the rest of society, is speaking in the name of the society, a thing that the insurrectionist movement doesn’t do. The separation of one part of the struggling movement from the society is always a way to try to say: I’m a better anarchist than you, and I really think it serves only political agendas and not insurrection.

    Look, just put these facts mentioned by a co-worker of the victims together:

    1) Employees threatened with leave to stay and work on the day of a major protest taking place just outside the building;

    2) Employees ordered they lock themselves up from the inside;

    3) The building has got no protection against fire and no fire exits;

    4) Internet is cut off.

    I mean even dismissing any conspiracy theories and speculations about who set the fire, isn’t it a case of obvious blackmail by the management?

    Any communiques and statements are useless at this point, all you need is to do is spread the employee’s quote (http://gcinfos.canalblog.com/archives/2010/05/05/17828368.html)

    I don’t think the public is guillible enough to believe insurrectionists would actually have something to gain in murdering people, but it is not impossible they(the protesters) fell for a trap.

    Either way, it should be disturbing if Vgenopoulos isn’t trialed for the causes of this incident.

    this text is exceedingly disingenuous, what is “society”, but the totality of commodity production and disciplinary apparatuses?
    to take advantage of tragic deaths to promote this sort of populism is lame

    Nihilist. physics,Chemistry, Philosophy ,mathematics etc are autonomous not independent social productions.As divisions of social labor they are not reducible to commodity production nor to its disciplinary apparatus. Currently of course all the practitioners of the sciences depend on commodity production and on its disciplinary apparatus. They are therefore unlikely to useful in the overthrow of Capitalism but indispensable in its catastrophic aftermath. Totalizing political philosophy leads to totems of one kind or another.

    Anti-Authoritarian Movement? Really? I get that you’re trying to have different perspectives of the bank deaths but a group that invokes “direct democracy” and is considered barely anarchist in Greece, and was the victim of an anarchist bombing years ago is not necessarily a perspective we need to hear.

    sectarianism is the only thing that comes from this kind of litterature…
    who gives a crap about what “antiauthoritarian movement” has to say? noone in Greece, that’s for sure.
    After interviews with mass-media to undermine the insurrectionists, now they come to use these tragic deaths as another charge against their main enemy.. This is completely disgusting. So what now? If this happened during a halloween fest, would it be the fault of those doing propaganda for halloweens? Fucking nazi mentality…

    Le Mouvement anti-autoritaire d’Athènes (AK) sur les événements de mercredi

    6 Mai 2010

    Dans la grande manifestation d’hier, la société a connu une grande victoire qui a été minée par une tentative de la charger avec un événement tragique, une défaite qui ne lui appartient pas.

    Le feu dans la banque “Marfin” a offert de la “chaleur” à un système politique et social qui avait déjà commencé à “se refroidir” au contact de la touche glacée de l’or.

    Le tragique tragique, en dehors du climat de colère populaire exprimé depuis l’avenue Alexandras jusqu’à la place Syntagma, dérive de l’intolérance des « spécialistes de la violence ». La cape de l’avant-garde agressive est tombée, mettant à nu le rôle des «pestes-luttantes », comme un rôle en dehors et contre la société. Rôles, commandement et obsession d’une perception d’être contre la société plutôt que de son côté, ont conduits à la mort de trois employés.

    Il a été révélé que de telles pratiques et leurs justifications sont côte à côte et servent les intérêts des patrons et de l’État. Une telle offre ingénue aux forces de la domination est bien plus efficace qu’aurait pu l’être une collaboration formelle avec les patronats et l’Etat.

    En revanche, la marche massive de 200.000 personnes au centre-ville d’Athènes est la réponse aux petits boutiquiers de la violence. La colère sociale et son mode d’expression dans chaque situation (squats, affrontements et manifestations) sont en eux même un choix de société, plutôt que de sauveteurs autoproclamés.

    Le Mouvement Anti-autoritaire, conformément à sa conceptualisation de la société et au slogan “‘action sociale directe – la démocratie directe», a rallié des milliers de personnes dans un bloc massif, solide et auto-protégé, tout comme les autres blocs structurés d’anarchistes .Il a participé, en tant que partie organique, à l’expression d’une énorme partie radicale et sociale qui démontrait que l’Etat n’a pas de légitimité sociale.

    Malgré la grave escroquerie du régime, qui a tenté de construire un consensus sur la mort de trois travailleurs, les employés de “Marfin” eux-mêmes ont mis en évidence les instigateurs : «mes collègues ont été tués aujourd’hui par malveillance. La malveillance de la banque et de M. Vgenopoulos personnellement [le directeur], qui a ordonné que toute personne qui ne travaillerait pas aujourd’hui pas ne devrait plus se présenter le lendemain au bureau. “. Des auteurs qui transforment les conditions de travail en crématoires de l’esclavage salarié. Les personnes qui ont été tués par le feu ne peuvent pas être pleurées par les larmes des leaders politiques, mais uniquement par le mouvement populaire.

    Moral-panic nonsense.

    Does anyone know if the people who threw a firebomb were really members of an “aggressive avant-garde” who treat violence as a “role” – as opposed to ordinary anarchists who happened to adopt property damage as a tactic in this single case – or angry protesters, responding to police violence, who might not be anarchists at all, but “ordinary” protesters caught up in the moment?

    Looking for a sacrificial lamb to offer up to the mainstream.
