On Wednesday 24 of February, after the demonstration that took place the day of the general strike, some comrades went to the university and destroyed the security barriers that have recently been installed in order to check who enters the area. Riot police units and motorcycles of the police entered the university and chased the comrades, who went into the administration building to protect themselves. They decided to occupy the building, in order to denounce the entrance of police forces into the area of the asylum and to organize further actions.
A demonstration took place in Thessaloniki the next day and another central one is planned for next Tuesday. Meanwhile many events have happened, and the occupied building is the center of the coordination of the whole struggle. On Monday is planned another demonstration that will pass from all parts of the university campus.
The administration building is the most central spot of the university and its occupation has created serious problems to the rector. On Sunday they cut the electricity of the place, but after a while they changed their mind when hundreds of comrades went to the university as the news became public.
The leftist organizations that generally have influence into the student circles have failed totally to answer to the provocation of the police and the rector (who said that he agrees if the police enters the area every time that they believe they should), and have stated that they don’t support the occupation of the administration building. Nevertheless, this has only helped the struggle to have more autonomous characteristics and even more people to support the occupation.
SOCIAL ASYLUM, NOT ACADEMIC

Assembly of the squatted rectorship building of Aristotele University
Announcement:
On the 21st February in Athens, after fake informing from the Rector’s side that inside the area “there are people who cause damages”, policemen of Z-team invade inside the School of Chemical Engineering. They patrol undisturbed riding their motorcycles on the corridors, treat in vulgar against people, and bring in the police station 30 persons who were walking away from a student party. Later on, it is proved that none damage took place in the area of the School. As an immediate response, in Athens the rectorships in the University campus of Zografou district and the National Metsovian Polytechnical University on Patision Street set squatted.
On 24th February, in Thessaloniki, after the end of the Strike mobilizations, a team of people returns back to the University and rip the bars preventing entry to it. Teams of MAT (riot-cops) invade two times in the area of Aristotele University of Thessaloniki, chasing the people until the entrance of the rectorship building.
Groups of students and solidarists gather at the spot and decide to squat the building.
The squat was for six days the coordination center for people struggling on issues of state violence and repression, attempting through the organized actions to open the question of asylum and to emphasize that this is not a matter of the academic community, but a matter of all oppressed people.
Today, on Tuesday 2nd of March we participate in the demonstration and the gathering at the Polytechnic and we end the squatting of the Rectorship.
We call for an assembly in the Polytechnic after the end of the demonstration to organize the continuation of our action.

solidarity to the comrades in Greece!
do comrades there realize that Greece has been a major headline in the US, especially in the Business press, in recent days? The press is speculating wildly on the outcome of the Greek Debt Crisis. I hope you comrades can make the outcome an anarchist revolution as austerity measures further shows the allegiance of the State to capitalism above all else. The press has also been talking about how US investment banks, like Goldman Sachs, have been involved in financial transactions that may have destabilized the Greek economy and that these companies may have placed bets on Greece’s default on it’s debt, and then taken actions with their money to make it come true.
The fact that bankers from New York can control what happens in Greece is exactly why capitalism must fall. But know that as Greeks fight the austerity measures, you are also fighting control from the US, just like before the Nov. 17 revolution.
the world is watching, and if Greeks can create a revolution, anarchists from around the world will come and participate and support the struggle, just like in the Spanish Civil War. transportation is now much faster than it was back then, so I think we could be more successful and well-organized than the Spanish were in 1936. And we can win.
Forward!
