# 132 | Mass xenophobic attack and solidarity demo in Athens as social tension rises

Neos Kosmos is a neighbourhood on the south edge of Athens’ city centre. For the past few years the neighbourhood has seen a relatively large Arab community grow, with small migrant-owned shops springing around. On Tuesday night (24.11), a group of 40-50 masked up fascists attacked migrants in these shops. They injured at least three people, smashed and looted the shops as well as a car. Eye-witness reports confirm these peoples’ identity – they were chanting “foreigners, out” and “leave Greece now”.

Not-so-astonishingly, initial media reports claimed this was a fight within the migrant community, in a failed attempt to cover up the incident.

A solidarity demonstration was called for and took place this evening (November 25) and a public assembly has been called for the coming Saturday. This is a developing story, more info as it comes.
