#125 | 277 people were detained in Athens tonight: All hail the democracy!

36 years from the anti-dictatorial student uprising in Athens. It’s been a long while and democracy seems old enough to show its teeth: at tonight’s commemorative demonstration, 277 people (!) were in total detained by police (a “detention” also means being forcefully taken to a police station for ID checking etc). So far, out of these people, seven have been charged. It is very difficult to transmit any more verified information at the moment, although it is clear that deep into the night, the entire neighbourhood of Exarcheia was occupied by police.

Reports from the commemorative demonstration also talk of an impressive size of the anarchists blocks (three in total) that, combined, exceeded 5,000 participants. More information, from Athens and the other cities were demonstrations were held today, as it comes.

It seems like the latest confirmed numbers from last night’s demonstration are 290 detentions, 10 arrests (i.e. people who were charged and now face court and possibly pre-trial detention).

people in Athens need to start bringing Guns to demos.

and the response to EVERY SINGLE TIME that the cops attack a demo should be for an affinity group to take over a major TV station to denounce it, while everyone is still in the streets.

like have them nearby the station and ready to go invade if the cops fuck with the demo.

It was the KEY to success in the Oaxaca rebellion, and it needs to happen more for us to win!

what’s with people always thinking they should impose their stupid ideas about revolution on a struggle that is actually creative and vibrant? Bring guns to a demo?
