According to the mainstream media, a cop was arrested by his colleagues last night (19/10) for taking out his service gun and shooting in the air, following a fight with a Somali woman in the heart of Athens (close to Omonoia Sq). Now there are two important things about this story: 1) that the emphasis was given to the fact that the woman is a prostitute and that he had a woman’s wig on him (he is presented as mentally ill) and 2) that the head of the greek police is presented as the hero who will root out incidents of breach of duty (the cop was suspended).
Well in a city center that is cramped with police after the new measures of the recently-elected socialist (!) government – the new Ministry of “Citizen Protection”, as is now called the ex-Ministry of Public Order, announced that the extreme “crime-prevention” patrolling measures of Exarchia will be applied in all Athens’ neighborhoods –, after the recent brutal torture and assassination of one more immigrant by cops (one more in the list of ever so many), after the violent attack against the demonstration in Nikaia and the totally irrational charges against the arrested demonstrators, frankly, we don’t buy it!!!
