#80 | Democracy works! (An election and a car bomb)

Wednesday morning. Talking heads on the TV sets are going wild: A car bomb had just detonated outside the Athens Stock Exchange. Sure, there were no injuries, other than a woman slightly injured partly thanks to the incapability of the cops to vacate the area on time. And yet what a blasphemy, to attack the symbols of capital like this! The strongest bomb in the country’s urban guerilla history (and it’s been a long one) for the strongest symbol of capital ever attacked, so far.

Wednesday evening. Another talking head, the Head of the Greek State himself, is admitting his oh-so-human incapability to hold control. He is graciously offering the millions of silent heads, democracy’s subjects, a chance to speak up. Elections! Democracy works. Democracy drowns migrants crossing the Aegean on a raft; it winks at neo-nazis finishing the job at public squares in Athens. Democracy will tear gas the hell out of anyone daring to take to the streets, it takes prisoners and starves them to near-death. On a Saturday night, tired but happy, democracy enjoys nothing more than shooting troublesome teenagers in the head.

Their election-spectacle has been set for October 4. The struggle against their democracy continues everyday, everywhere…
